There’s a song from the ‘60s called “Ain’t Nothing Like the Real Thing.” In this song, the lyrics express how the songwriter enjoys and prefers the actual presence of his lady along with the actual interaction with her as opposed to seeing her picture or a written letter or playing back memories. The songwriter wants the full and present real deal when it comes to being with his lady.
We all probably can relate to wanting the same thing- a relationship with someone that is real (romantic or not). They’re tangible and not distant, and there’s an intimacy (a deep connection or bond) that is not easily broken because a trust is there. It’s very different from a casual friendship or acquaintances. Those who have best friends may understand this more. It’s a deeper level and you trust those people because their heart is with you no matter what.
God also wants the real deal too. In fact, the word says God is looking for true worshippers, people who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. That means He is looking for people who will be their authentic selves and will worship Him from that place and in truth, not being fake but also knowing the truth of His word. For true worshippers, it’s not a “Sunday only” thing or a music thing. Worship is everyday life. It’s how we live day in and day out, acknowledging and responding to God for who He is and what He has done.
God is looking for us to be real with Him. He has always been real with us and good to us. God is looking for people who want to know Him on the daily in relationship, not for religious purposes. He’s looking for people whose hearts are chasing after Him. He’s looking for people to respond to Him fully transparent and wholeheartedly, trusting Him. If you are who He is looking for, then let Him know and show Him everyday that you are what He’s looking for.
“But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.””- John 4:23-24 NKJV
